Geography

Hispaniola Island is located in the Greater Antilles, just under the Tropic of Cancer, in the Northern Hemisphere.

The Dominican Republic extends over 48,442 Km.2, (18,703 square miles), which is two-thirds of the island’s total area. Haiti is located in the western part of the territory.

The country has a predominantly humid tropical savanna-like climate. Temperatures fluctuate between 20-30º degrees Celsius, although climate variations are so intense that may go from 0º degrees Celsius in Constanza to 40º degrees Celsius in the southwestern region.
